Summary history of Yaxley

Yaxley is four and a half miles south from Peterborough. A large village which formerly had a market. The church is large and handsome and has a fine crocketted spire; in the north transept there is a heart shrine, in which was found a heart, supposed to be that of William de Yaxley, Abbot of Thorney. In this parish is Norman Cross, where many of the French soldiers captured during the Napoleonic wars were imprisoned.
