Summary history of Chesterton

Chesterton lies five and a half miles west of Peterborough, derives its name from the Roman waystation, Durobrivae, which is actually in the adjoining parish. It was the seat of the ancient family of Devill, and afterwards of John Dryden, cousin of the poet.
