Summary history of Elton

Elton lies eight miles west-south-west of Peterborough. Elton Hall was the ancient property of the Sapcotes, and later became the seat of the Earls of Carysfort. It contains a magnificent library of early printed books, and here are preserved a thurible and censor found at the draining of Whittlesey Mere, doubtless formerly the property of Ramsey Abbey.
