Summary history of Great Gransden

Great Gransden is seven miles south-south-east from St Neots. A considerable village, of which the celebrated Barnabas Oley, who was largely instrumental in conveying the Cambridge College plate to King Charles I, was vicar; he built five alms-houses here, which still exist, dated 1679. The church is a fine specimen of the Perpendicular style of architecture; and contains a pulpit which is said to have come from the Great St Mary's Church, Cambridge.
