Moygne's Moat at Great Raveley in Huntingdonshire

Moygne's Moat at Great Raveley

Moygne's Moat at Great Raveley

Moygne's Moat at Great Raveley, which is still wet on the north, east and west sides, encloses an area of 300 ft. by 250 ft. There is a slight bank nearly all round, on the inside, and a very strongly marked bank outside the moat on the west side, and lesser banks on the other sides. About 140 ft. away towards the north-east is a deep trench lying at a tangent with the moat; running at right angles with this trench are two lesser dykes which, together with the large banked dyke at the end of the field, form a square enclosure; east of this is a sunk space called ‘The Vineyars.’
